Terms of Use

Terms of Use

RadioTime content and our API are open for your use anywhere. We want to get out of your way so you can create. These are the basics, please review the specific legal terms and all of our lawyers will be happy.

License Stuff

Everything is free for non-commercial open source development.

Everything is free for testing before it is available to the public.

You may not sub-license content or API without a contractual agreement with RadioTime. You may not use RadioTime content to create directly competitive applications or APIs.

You may not cache, proxy, or save RadioTime content.

You’ll need an authorized partner code before your application can update the RadioTime database, support volume use, or access certain protected streams. Details are in the API section.

Branding

Your application must display “Powered by RadioTime” near the content, on each page in a font at the same type and size or larger than the main content text. The “Powered by RadioTime” text must link to radiotime.com. The radio time bug or logo must also be included when the interface shows other graphics.

Required Features

To keep the guide quality high we ask that your app report failed streams and a unique user code. We also suggest support for a “problem reporting wizard” and “cloud Presets”, all available as simple-to-use services.

Pricing

To pay the bills and meet your needs, we license our content and provide valuable data.

We employ a team of developers and data moderators who make over 100,000 manual updates to the database every month. Our software platform costs millions of dollars and six years to develop. We process millions of transactions and have delivered 99.9% availability for years.

With paid deals, we include development support, service level commitments, experienced advice, and research (more than the free stuff here), reports and analytics on radio use.

Our pricing is simple with options that work with your business. We power devices with unlimited content for between $0.50 and $5.00 each. That covers the lifetime of the device — no pestering your customers to pay more for free radio. Device royalties are pre-purchased in blocks of 25K units, like capacitors.

When the guide is a core component of your software application or subscription solution, we license the software from $2-$10 per user per year. These are pre-paid for a minimum block of 10K copies and then paid against quarterly reports.

Search and portal companies can license the content on an annual basis.

All deals are special. But you’ll want to pay enough up front to be sure we focus on meeting your needs. A contractual commitment needs some cash to justify the hassle, a $10-$50K minimum paid up front. We will work with smaller companies to defer additional first year royalties.

Advertising Solutions

RadioTime develops branding and advertising solutions to help meet the needs of broadcasters. This means the radio content includes ads… we hope you are not shocked. Listeners like the right ads and they hate subscription fees. We ask for a percentage of the ad revenue where RadioTime is contributing to both the listener and broadcaster.

RadioTime also intends to offer sponsorships to broadcasters and producers to highlight their programming. Here we copy Google and make it clear what content is sponsored. We also make the content work for its placement based not only on payment, but also by popularity.
